Second Life

Second Life is an adjustable-height stool in the form of a tree stump. Its polished metal seat and base frame the recycled material that constitutes the mass of the tree trunk. The stool “grows” to a desired height through its adjustable layers of recycled paper material. It metaphorically creates a second life for the trees that perished to create such material, whose production is a significant cause of deforestation. Essentially, the Second Life stool exists between nature and artifice, and between life and death. Its height can range from that of a footstool to that of a tall barstool. It is available in polished bronze or aluminum and can contain a wide variety of recycled paper materials and colors, from layered corrugated cardboard to shredded paper and newsprint.
