Ateliers Michael Herrman creates furniture and objects that straddle the line between art and functional objects, with unique custom-crafted works. Working closely with foundries using bronze, steel, glass in combination with various other materials and technologies, AMH creates pieces that align with its goals of exploring the intersection of nature, technology and surrealism.
Enlightened Table transcends the limits of reality through its superimposition of the reflection of a desired light source onto the space in which it is located. In essence, wherever Enlightened Table is placed, a perfectly centered ceiling light appears above it.
Its polished metal seat and base frame the recycled material that constitutes the mass of the tree trunk. The stool “grows” to a desired height through its adjustable layers of recycled paper material. It metaphorically creates a second life for the trees that perished to create such material, whose production is a significant cause of deforestation.
Mirror, mirror on the wall is a wall mirror designed to appear to reflect a desired light source, such as chandeliers from the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, or a window with an extraordinary view of Paris. In each case, one looks into the mirror to see a reflection of the space one is in, with the addition of a superimposed illusory light source.
